Burnley vs Manchester United match preview

Crisis club Manchester United make the very short 25 mile journey north to Lancashire, so will they end their streak of defeats?

On Wednesday night, the Red Devils were on the wrong end of one of the most one-sided 4-3s you’re ever likely to see, swatted aside by Bayern Munich, despite what the scoreline suggests.

Rasmus Højlund bagged his first for the club, while Casemiro was on target twice right at the end, but Man United never looked like leaving the Allianz Arena with anything.

So, following 3-1 defeats against both Arsenal and Brighton, they’ve now conceded 3+ in three successive matches for the first time since 1978, while this represents their worst start to a league season since 1989.

Erik ten Hag is undoubtably a man under pressure, a zeitgeist that’ll only intensify if his team are beaten again here.

Well, Burnley don’t seem particularly well placed to cause an upset, given that they kick off second bottom, with just a solitary point to their name.

Lyle Foster cruelly robbed a late winner because Sander Berge was adjudged to have ‘deliberately’ handled the ball in the build-up.

This was at least the first time the Clarets had avoided defeat, after commencing their top-flight return with three consecutive home defeats, in which they’d conceded 11 times.

Burnley are winless in seven home games against Manchester United, dating back to 2009 when that Robbie Blake strike downed Sir Alex Ferguson’s defending champions.

That is the Red Devils’ only defeat at Turf Moor since 1968, but will the Burnley faithful have a famous victory to celebrate here?

Burnley team news

To add insult to injury, Lyle Foster was sent off soon after seeing his goal disallowed at the City Ground, meaning he’ll be suspended for three games.

Given that the South African has scored 50% of Burnley’s goals this season, that’s far from ideal.

Zeki Amdouni, who’s goal did count on Monday, will lead the line, with Anass Zaroury, who’s back following a ban of his own, coming in for Foster.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Trafford; Roberts, Beyer, Al-Dakhil, Taylor; Cullen, Brownhill, Guðmundsson, Koleosho; Zaroury, Amdouni.

Manchester United team news

The visitors are without Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, Donny van de Beek, Kobbie Mainoo, Sofyan Amrabat, Amad, Jadon Sancho and Antony for one reason or another.

Facundo Pellistri was surprisingly given a start in Munich, chosen over Alejandro Garnacho on the right-wing.

Aside from Hannibal Mejbri, who came off the bench to score his first goal for the club against Brighton, and Scott McTominay, Erik ten Hag has basically no other senior options….. aside from Harry Maguire!

Rasmus Højlund did open his Man United account in Bavaria, so will he be on target here too?

Predicted XI: (4-3-3): Onana; Dalot, Lindelöf, Martínez, Reguilón; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Garnacho, Rashford, Højlund.
