Brighton & Hove Albion vs Bournemouth match preview

The Premier League’s two South Coast clubs are actually located almost 90 miles apart, and they’re similarly expected to be fighting towards opposite ends of the table.

Brighton & Hove Albion start the weekend in fifth place, having won four games out of five, most-recently taking Manchester United apart at Old Trafford last weekend, prevailing 3-1.

Then, on Thursday night, the Seagulls made their highly-anticipated European debut, with Greek champions AEK Athens the visitors to Sussex.

Well, AEK rather spoiled the Europa League party, with Brighton beaten 3-2 on opening night, despite the fact João Pedro converted a pair of penalties.

Next up in that competition, Roberto De Zerbi’s team take on Olympique de Marseille at Stade Vélodrome, before a mouthwatering double-headers against Ajax.

Here though, can Brighton secure a third successive victory over Bournemouth for the first time since 1932?

Last Sunday, Andoni Iraola’s team held Chelsea to a goalless draw at Dean Court, which represents a decent enough point.

This takes the Cherries onto three points, after also managing draws with two other London-based opponents, West Ham and Brentford.

Here, a home win seems very likely at the Amex.

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

Lewis Dunk and Evan Ferguson both missed the mid-week defeat to AEK Athens, with both also doubtful to feature here.

Joël Veltman, Tariq Lamptey and Adam Webster could all return to the back-line, while Ansu Fati made his full-debut for the club in midfield on Thursday.

In goal, Jason Steele has started four matches this season, with Bart Verbruggen donning the gloves for the other two, so only Roberto De Zerbi knows who will be chosen this time.

Predicted XI (4-5-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Webster, van Hecke, Estupiñán; Gilmour, Groß, March, Ansu Fati, Mitoma; João Pedro.

Bournemouth team news

Bournemouth have had a whole week to prepare for this one, so Andoni Iraola will be hoping to make this advantage count.

Lloyd Kelly got the nod at centre-back against Chelsea, but Marcos Senesi is expected to return.

Out-wide, Dango Ouattara made his first appearance of the season last weekend, with Marcus Tavernier on the other flank, but any of David Brooks, Justin Kluivert, Luis Sinisterra or Hamed Traorè could be chosen this time.

Summer signings Tyler Adams and Alex Scott remain injured.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Neto; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Cook, Billing, Christie; Brooks, Ouattara, Solanke.
