Brentford vs Everton match preview

Will Brentford bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the season this time last week?

The Bees were beaten 1-0 at St James’ Park by Newcastle seven days ago, the only goal of the evening coming from the penalty spot.

This was very harshly awarded, considering that Anthony Gordon flung himself on top of Mark Flekken.

Now, given that they’ve drawn three of five outings, Thomas Frank’s team are 11th, aiming to climb the table with a first home win of the campaign here.

Everton meantime kick off in the relegation zone with just a solitary point to their name, following Sunday’s uninspiring 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal.

Sean Dyche’s team mustered only one shot on target, ending the game with a measly xG figure of 0.34.

Nevertheless, the Blues have won only one of their last 17 Premier League away games, this coming at Brighton in May, a result that effectively saved them from relegation.

Everton have also only ever won one of 11 away games against Brentford, this coming in 1952, although they’d probably be delighted with a repeat of the 1-1 draw they mustered 13 months ago.

This time, will the Bees make home advantage count at the Brentford Community Stadium?

Brentford team news

Left-back Rico Henry suffered a season-ending ACL injury at St James’ Park, which is heartbreaking considering how well he’d been playing.

In his absence, Aaron Hickey will switch to the left, with Mads Roerslev coming in on the other side, while Thomas Frank is highly-likely to revert back to a flat back four.

This’ll be good news for Kevin Schade, who’ll return to lead the line, while Neal Maupay is ineligible against his parent club.

Predicted XI (5-3-2): Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Mee, Hickey; Jensen, Janelt, Nørgaard; Mbeumo, Wissa, Schade.

Everton team news

Dominic Calvert-Lewin came off the bench against Arsenal, donning a Phantom of the Opera-esque mark, making his first appearance since suffering a fractured cheekbone at Villa Park.

Sean Dyche has intimated that he could play Calvert-Lewin and Beto as a strike partnership, so it’ll be interesting to see if that’s utilised here.

Dwight McNeil was back after injury last weekend, although Séamus Coleman, Jack Harrison and Dele are all still out.

Predicted XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gana Gueye, Doucouré, Onana, McNeil, Danjuma; Beto.
