Everton vs Luton Town match preview

It’s been a perfect week for Everton, so far, so will they pick up three more precious points here?

A week ago, the Toffees caused a big surprise by beating Brentford 3-1 in West London.

Abdoulaye Doucouré, James Tarkowski and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all scoring in the Blues’ first league win of the season.

Then, on Wednesday night, Sean Dyche’s team enjoyed another victory on the road, this time dumping Aston Villa out of the Carabao Cup, with James Garner and Calvert-Lewin on target in that one.

Now, Everton’s next two matches are this one and then Bournemouth (H) next Saturday, presenting them with a golden chance to climb away from the bottom three and into mid-table serenity.

Luton Town meantime picked up their first-ever Premier League point last weekend, holding ten-man Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.

Nevertheless, it is a first point on the board for Rob Edwards’ side, which should spark positivity, although any semblance of optimism may have been extinguished by Tuesday’s League Cup exit against Exeter.

The Hatters are winless in nine meetings with the Toffees, dating back to 1989, and that streak seems unlikely to come to an end here, with Everton overwhelming favourites to pick up the points.

Everton team news

Having scored in both of Everton’s wins this week, Dominic Calvert-Lewin will continue to lead the line, aiming to score in back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time since May 2022.

Jack Harrison made his debut for the Toffees at Villa Park, while Ashley Young, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Dwight McNeil and last weekend’s man of the match Abdoulaye Doucouré will all return.

Predicted XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gana Gueye, Doucouré, Onana, McNeil, Danjuma; Calvert-Lewin.

Luton Town team news

Rob Edwards made ten changes for Tuesday’s loss to Exeter, with only Alfie Doughty starting both, and, given that they were beaten by the League One side, he’s likely to make wholesale alterations here too.

Albert Sambi Lokonga will not feature however, after picking up an injury that means he’ll face ‘months’ on the sidelines against Wolves.

Striker Carlton Morris has scored two of Luton’s three league goals this season, both from 12 yards, so could he bag an historic one here?

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Kaminski; Lockyer, Burke, Bell; Kaboré, Nakamba, Chong, Ruddock Mpanzu, Doughty; Brown, Morris.
