Chelsea arrange meeting with Real Madrid defender ahead of potential summer move

Reports stemming from Spain have linked Chelsea with an interest in Eder Militao.

Chelsea of course have a number of quality central defenders on their books right now. However, the Blues could yet stand to lose three of them this summer.

Thiago Silva, 37, would sign a one-year contract extension recently. But Chelsea are yet to tie down Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen or Cesar Azpilicueta to new deals, with all three currently in line to leave the club for nothing at the end of the season.

Not only that, but now that all three are in the final six months of their respective contracts, they are free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

So, it is probably fair to assume that Chelsea will need to bring in at least one central defender in the summer transfer window.

It is reported that Chelsea have arranged a meeting with Real Madrid defender Militao as they look to tempt him to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

Militao is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2025, but Thomas Tuchel is said to be eager to bring the centre-back in.

Eder Militao’s Real Madrid stint

Militao would sign for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a fee reported to be £45m.

The Brazilian initially struggled to hold down a regular starting berth for Los Blancos, with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane remaining the club’s main centre-back duo.

However, the pair have since left the club for PSG and Manchester United respectively, and Militao has done a solid job of helping to replace them.

The 24-year-old has featured in all of Real Madrid’s La Liga games this season bar one, as they march towards another league title.
