Harry Kane buyback clause clarified after Daniel Levy claims

The Former Tottenham no.9 has had his situation cleared up

Tottenham do not have a straightforward buyback clause on striker Harry Kane despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s claims to the contrary, it has been revealed.

Speaking to the Tottenham fan forum, Levy revealed that there was a buyback clause for Harry Kane that had been inserted into the deal which saw him join Bayern Munich over the summer.

“There is a buy-back clause. He’s always welcome back. Harry’s a much loved and valued member of the Spurs family and forever in our history”, he explained to the Lilywhite faithful.

However, this has since been revealed to be something far more complex than a simple buyback at a certain price.

As per the Daily Mail, it is instead the “right of refusal” should another bid be made, where Spurs can match the bid should they wish. They add that ‘the clause provides Tottenham with the first option on Kane if he was ever to return to the Premier League, while there is also not believed to be a fixed price meaning Spurs would still need to negotiate a fee with Bayern’.

Additionally, they claim that ‘there is doubt over whether Kane would even consider returning to north London while Levy remains at the helm’, something which could effectively rule out his return with Levy having no plans to leave the club.

The England captain takes on Manchester United with his new side at the Allianz Arena in their Champions League group stage opener, in a game that marks his first return against English opposition since he left the Premier League.
